Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has pledged to actively resist electoral fraud and challenge poor governance as he positions himself for the 2027 presidential race under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) banner.
Speaking after a strategic meeting with Gombe State stakeholders on Saturday, Abubakar emphasized his commitment to ending the cycle of electoral manipulation that has plagued Nigerian democracy. The delegation was led by former minister and senator Idris Abdullahi.
Opposition Coalition Takes Shape
Abubakar stressed that Nigeria’s current hardships are inexcusable given the nation’s abundant natural resources, pointing to inadequate leadership as the root cause of widespread suffering. The former presidential candidate outlined how the newly formed opposition coalition under the ADC umbrella is determined to deliver meaningful transformation to Nigerian citizens.
“Yesterday, I vowed to stand against the stealing of elections and oppose bad governance,” Abubakar stated in a social media post. “The coalition of opposition leaders under the umbrella of the ADC would work assiduously to usher in a positive change that will transform the lives of our people.”
Leadership Quality and Integrity
The former Vice-President highlighted the caliber of the coalition’s interim leadership as evidence of their readiness to restore democratic integrity and provide responsible governance. He expressed confidence that this leadership structure demonstrates the coalition’s commitment to offering Nigerians the quality of governance they deserve.
Gombe Stakeholders Pledge Support
Abubakar revealed his encouragement from the Gombe delegation’s pledge of unwavering support and loyalty to the coalition’s decision to adopt the ADC platform. The stakeholders reminded him of his instrumental role in Gombe State’s development, particularly his support for Danjuma Goje’s successful gubernatorial campaign in 2003.
This announcement follows the recent decision by Abubakar and other opposition leaders to formally adopt the ADC as their unified platform for the 2027 general elections, marking a significant consolidation of opposition forces ahead of the crucial electoral contest.
