ATIKU’S SONS TEAR ADAMAWA ADC APART AS BOTH VIE FOR SAME FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY SEAT

Tensions are rising within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State as the political ambitions of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s sons, Adamu and Mohammed, fuel a brewing crisis just months ahead of the 2027 elections.

Insiders say the brothers’ parallel bids for the House of Representatives seat in the Jada, Ganye, Toungo, and Mayo-Belwa Federal Constituency have split the party into rival factions, undermining state chairman Shehu Yohanna and the transitional committee led by Barr. Sadiq Ibrahim Dasin.

Sources described the situation as “deeply damaging,” noting that both camps are reportedly backed and funded by the Atiku family, with each side working to outmaneuver the other and stall reconciliation efforts.

The crisis has taken a more political turn, with factions accusing the Dasin-led committee of allegedly sabotaging Atiku’s presidential ambitions—a claim insiders call baseless but politically weaponized.

High-profile party members are reportedly distancing themselves from the conflict. Babachir David Lawal, previously a key strategist close to Atiku, has stepped back from family strategy meetings, while Abdulaziz Nyako is said to be considering a return to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to avoid entanglement in the internal feud.

Reports suggest the Atiku family is planning an internal “family ballot” to decide which son will secure the party’s ticket for the federal constituency race. But many party stakeholders fear the move may be too late to prevent further erosion of trust and unity.

Observers warn that the situation raises serious questions about ADC’s governance in Adamawa, with allegations that party resources are now funneled through Atiku’s children rather than directly to the party, effectively turning the state structure into a “family affair.”

The controversy also fuels concerns over optics, as having the presidential candidate’s son contesting for a National Assembly seat could further dent the party’s credibility ahead of the 2027 elections.

With internal divisions now fully exposed, ADC in Adamawa faces a critical juncture, and insiders warn that without swift intervention, the party risks collapsing from within.
