Awujale: Zulum Visits Abiodun, Condoles Monarch’s Family

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has paid a condolence visit to Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and the family of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, describing the revered monarch as a towering figure in Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

Governor Zulum, who led a delegation from Borno State to the Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta on Tuesday, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Oba Adetona. He noted that the late Awujale was not only a loss to Ogun State but to Borno and the nation at large, given his dignity, influence, and contributions to national unity.

The Awujale was a man of honour whose impact transcended regional boundaries,” Zulum said. “The bond between the people of Borno and the South West, especially Ijebuland, is deeply rooted in shared culture and values. That is why we felt it necessary to come in person, not just to make a phone call.”

He described the monarch as a selfless and principled leader, praying for strength and comfort for his family and the people of Ogun State.

Governor Zulum also commended Governor Abiodun for fostering national unity through his outreach across political and ethnic lines.

In his response, Governor Abiodun described the late Oba Adetona as a man of unwavering principle and integrity who served his people with fairness and distinction.

He was committed to truth, justice, and the welfare of all,” Abiodun said. “Kabiyesi was a father figure who brought religious harmony and equity to Ijebuland. His voice was respected, and his legacy will live on.”

Governor Abiodun expressed profound gratitude to Governor Zulum for the visit, recalling that he had first informed Zulum of the monarch’s passing while they were both in London to visit the late President Muhammadu Buhari.

“I am deeply moved by your visit,” Abiodun said. “It speaks volumes about your compassion and connection to Ogun State. This is a true demonstration of brotherhood and unity.”

Also speaking, Prince Adesire Adetona, the first son of the late Awujale, said the family was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and national recognition following the monarch’s death.

He thanked Governor Abiodun and the people of Ogun State for the honour given to his father, and praised the people of Nigeria for standing with the family during their time of grief.
