BANDITS KILL 5 RESIDENTS, SOLDIER IN FRESH ATTACK ON PLATEAU COMMUNITY

Suspected bandits launched a deadly attack on Zurak community in the Bashar district of Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State, on Monday around 3:00 pm.

The assailants killed at least five residents and one soldier during a gun battle. Three soldiers were reported missing following the clash.

According to Shapi’i Sambo, a youth leader in Wase, the bandits first targeted Sabon Gari community, where they burned houses, looted shops, and stole food items and valuables before moving to Zurak. The body of the slain soldier has been transported to Jos for further handling.

Jibrin Isa, a resident of Zurak (also referred to as Zak in some accounts), described the community as now largely deserted, with many residents fleeing to neighboring villages out of fear of additional attacks. He urged authorities to urgently intervene to restore peace and security.

The incident highlights the persistent insecurity in parts of Plateau State and Nigeria at large, despite the state of emergency declared by President Tinubu. Security forces continue to face challenges in containing armed criminal groups operating in rural areas.
