Police Officer Killed, Another Abducted as Bandits Attack Zamfara Village
A police officer has been killed while another was kidnapped during a bandit raid on Farin Ruwa village in Maru Local Government Area, Zamfara State, with several villagers also taken hostage.
Security sources who spoke to analyst Zagagola Makama said the attack occurred on January 4, when armed bandits stormed the community, overpowering security personnel and seizing serviceable firearms.

The body of Assistant Superintendent of Police Samaila Sule was recovered at the scene, along with the bodies of five villagers, the sources added.
During the assault, the attackers reportedly took Sule’s AK-47 rifle and 30 rounds of ammunition. Another officer, Aliyu Ibrahim, was abducted along with his AK-47 rifle, also loaded with 30 rounds.

At least 10 villagers were kidnapped during the raid and remain in captivity as of this report. Security officials are currently working to locate the abducted officer and civilians, as well as recover the stolen firearms.
Bandit attacks have surged across northern Nigeria toward the end of 2025, with their activities extending to parts of Kogi and Kwara states, leaving many dead and numerous others kidnapped.

The ongoing security challenges have sparked debate on whether the government should continue relying on domestic security forces or consider hiring foreign mercenaries to tackle banditry.
