Suspected bandits have attacked an ECWA Church in the Omugo community of Ifelodun Local Government Area in Kwara State, abducting several worshippers during a Sunday service.

The incident caused panic among residents as the attackers stormed the church and whisked away victims before security operatives intervened. Three of the abducted worshippers were later rescued following a swift response by security forces.

A local security source disclosed that at least seven people were initially taken, although details remain sketchy.

Confirming the attack, the State Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, said efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining victims. She commended the coordinated response of security agencies, forest guards, and local vigilantes, which led to the rescue of some victims and helped repel the attackers.

She added that the state government has directed security agencies to intensify the manhunt for the perpetrators and ensure the safe return of those still in captivity.

Olukoju condemned the attack, describing it as a cowardly act and stressing that violence against places of worship has no place in society. She also urged residents to remain vigilant and support security efforts by sharing useful information with authorities.

The government noted that ongoing forest combing operations have begun to yield results in curbing criminal activities in affected areas and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property.

The attack highlights the growing insecurity in parts of the country, where bandits continue to target communities despite increased deployment of security personnel.
