Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State yesterday resolved to mobilise support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election and intensify efforts to reclaim the state governorship from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The meeting, held at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, brought together top APC figures, including former National Chairman Dr. Umar Ganduje, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, Senator Kabiru Gaya, former Secretary to the State Government Suleiman Bichi, Kano APC Chairman Idris Abubakar, Senator Kawu Sulaiman, Senator Bashir Lado, and federal and state lawmakers.
Speaking after the two-hour session, Ganduje said the gathering reviewed the party’s strength in Kano and reaffirmed loyalty to President Tinubu.
“We are here to examine the progress and successes of our great party in Kano. We assure Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu that our party in Kano is solidly behind him. We appreciate his reforms, the appointments from Kano, and the projects ongoing in the state,” Ganduje said.
He added that the APC remains solid despite narrowly losing the governorship in 2023, stressing that the party has been attracting members from rival platforms due to the President’s policies. He listed recent defections, including Senator Kawu, former Speaker of the State House of Assembly Kabiru Ruru, and other lawmakers, commissioners, and ex-government officials.
Barau echoed Ganduje’s position, noting that Tinubu’s administration has delivered projects and appointments benefiting Kano and the wider North.
“The President has done very well for our state and the entire nation. We discovered several projects already implemented and ongoing, as well as appointments that favour our people. Our party is growing from strength to strength because of his interventions,” Barau said.
He urged stakeholders to return to their constituencies to mobilise grassroots support for the President and the APC.
Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Abubakar Kabiru, said the party aims to surpass the 600,000 votes delivered to Tinubu in 2023. He highlighted critical projects, including the nearly completed Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano highway, sections of the Kano–Maiduguri road, the Kano–Katsina project, and the planned $1 billion Kano light rail project set for groundbreaking in coming months.
“For anyone to say Mr. President is not interested in the North or Kano is mere politics. In 2027, Kano will vote massively for President Tinubu, the APC governor, senators, and House members, Insha Allah,” Abubakar said.
