On Tuesday, October 22, 2025, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed signed the Chieftaincy Appointment and Deposition Law, establishing 13 new emirates and over 111 district heads across the state. The new emirates include Burra, Duguri, Dambam, Bununu, Lere, Darazo, Jama’a, Lame, Toro, Ari, Warji, Giade, and Gamawa. Additionally, he enacted the Zaar Chiefdom Law, replacing the Sayawa Chiefdom, with its headquarters in Mhrim Namchi, Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area.

At the signing ceremony in Government House, Bauchi, Mohammed emphasized that the reforms aim to strengthen traditional institutions, enhance governance, and promote peace and inclusion. He warned against any attempts to politicize or obstruct the laws, stating, “Anyone inciting division or disrupting public peace will face the full weight of the law.”

Mohammed also signed the Local Government Pension Contributory Scheme to improve transparency in pension administration and committed to clearing outstanding pensions and gratuities for retired local government workers. Additionally, he approved the 2025 Appropriation Supplementary Act to fund ongoing development projects. The governor directed the Attorney General and Secretary to the State Government to gazette and distribute the laws for immediate implementation, underscoring their role in fostering accountability and stability in Bauchi State.
