Suspected Boko Haram terrorists launched an attack on a military outpost in Ajilari, on the outskirts of Maiduguri, simultaneously with another assault on the military base in Baga. Sources said the assailants infiltrated the area around 12:30 a.m., aiming to engage troops stationed there.
A swift response by a combined force of the military, police, the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), and the Air Force forced the attackers to retreat, preventing further damage.
ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso confirmed the incident, assuring that security operatives were fully managing the situation. “The suspected terrorists attacked Ajilari Cross… we are on top of it,” he said.

Residents who had gone out for night prayers described the scene as tense, with gunfire and helicopter activity filling the skies. “We were very scared, the whole air was taken over by gunshots and explosions. But Alhamdulillah, the situation is calm and prayers have begun,” said Bashir Yusuf.
This attack marks another resurgence in assaults on military positions in Borno State. Last week, Minister of Defence Christopher Musa convened an emergency meeting with Service Chiefs and later briefed President Bola Tinubu on the security situation. Musa noted that new strategies had been agreed upon and that the President had approved additional hardware to strengthen efforts against insurgency.
The quick response by security forces at Ajilari reflects ongoing adjustments in Nigeria’s fight against Boko Haram and related insurgent groups.
