BOKO HARAM REPORTEDLY ISSUES THREAT LETTER TO ANOTHER KWARA COMMUNITY DAYS AFTER KILLING OVER 162 RESIDENTS

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists linked to Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) have reportedly delivered a threatening letter to residents of Dunshigogo community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, warning that insurgents would soon visit the area.

According to reports, the letter mirrors an earlier threat sent to Woro community, where more than 162 people were massacred in a deadly attack that began Tuesday evening and continued into Wednesday morning.

The development has triggered widespread panic in Dunshigogo, with many residents already closing businesses and fleeing en masse amid fears of an imminent repeat attack.

A top source told said:

“Information reaching me now is that Dunshigogo still under Kaiama Local Government has been served the same letter, like that of Woro by terrorists. I understand that businesses are already closing up and people are fleeing en masse. I don’t even know who to call on now that won’t sabotage the lives of these people.”

Security agencies in Kwara State have not yet issued an official statement on the reported threat.

The fresh threat comes less than a week after one of Nigeria’s deadliest rural attacks in recent memory, when terrorists stormed Woro and Nuku villages in Kaiama LGA, killing over 162 people, razing homes, and abducting several residents.

Village head of Woro, Salihu Umar, later revealed that terrorists had sent a similar letter to his community about three weeks earlier. Dated 19 Rajab 1447 (equivalent to January 8, 2026), the Hausa-language letter—signed by JAS—requested a “secret” meeting with community leaders to “discuss” and “preach to the people,” insisting it was “not a threat or declaration of war.”

Umar said he photocopied the letter, submitted it to the Kaiama Emirate Council, and forwarded a soft copy to the State Security Service (SSS) office in Kaiama.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu blamed the attack on Boko Haram, describing the gunmen as “heartless for choosing soft targets in their doomed campaign of terror.” He ordered the deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama LGA under Operation Savannah Shield.

On Thursday, February 5, Tinubu held a closed-door meeting with Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq at the State House in Abuja to discuss the situation and coordinate immediate security and humanitarian responses.

Vice President Kashim Shettima later visited Kwara, meeting with the state government and traditional rulers, though he did not visit the affected villages.

The emergence of a similar threat letter to Dunshigogo has heightened fears that the region may be facing a new wave of insurgency, with residents questioning the effectiveness of current security measures despite the military deployment.
