A video obtained by SaharaReporters reveals a significant deployment of security operatives around the Sokoto Correctional Centre as the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, alongside officials from the Sokoto State government, visited the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, on Sunday.

Kanu, who is currently serving a life sentence, was convicted on counts 1, 4, 5, and 6. He also received additional sentences of 20 years and 5 years on counts 3 and 7 respectively, after the court ruled that the prosecution had adequately proved its case.
Following his conviction, Kanu was swiftly transferred from the Department of State Services (DSS) facility in Abuja to the Sokoto Correctional Centre— a move that has sparked widespread criticism. His lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, denounced the transfer, describing it as an attempt to cut him off from his family, legal representatives, and supporters.

Kanu’s wife, Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, confirmed his unexpected relocation and expressed shock over the secrecy surrounding the transfer.
Adding to the concerns, Kanu’s personal doctor, Prof. M. A. C. Aghaji, issued a warning about the potential health implications of the sudden move. In a letter addressed to President Bola Tinubu, he described the transfer as abrupt and medically unsafe, stressing that Kanu’s condition could worsen in the Sokoto facility.

On November 21, 2025, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja convicted Kanu on seven terrorism-related charges filed by the Federal Government, marking a major development in the long-standing legal battle.
