President Muhammadu Buhari is currently meeting with family members of the kidnapped passengers of the Abuja-Kaduna Train, which was attacked by terrorists on March 28.
According to reports, the meeting is taking place at the State House, Abuja on Thursday, August 11, 2022.
Recall, on March 28, 2022, terrorists detonated a bomb on an Abuja-Kaduna bound train track at Katari, a village in Kaduna state and open fire on the train. The attack result in about eight people being killed, some injured and many others were taken hostage.
Following the attack, some victims who were able to pay ransom were freed while others remain in custody.
This had made families of the kidnapped victims yet to be released constantly held protests demanding the government use all means to bring back their relatives home.
On Sunday, July 24, 2022, in a video shared by the terrorists, the victims in captivity were shown being flogged mercilessly, and they threatened to Kidnap President Muhammadu Buhari and Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
Barely twenty-four hours after the video, three of the 43 victims were released from custody.
Earlier this month, another five were released, after many months in captivity.
Also, on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, seven more were released which include a family of six, but it wasn’t clear if ransom was paid.
