Breaking: APC senators rise to 77 as Cross River lawmaker Agom Jarigbe dumps PDP

The Senator representing Cross River North, Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His defection letter was read by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who presided over Tuesday’s plenary session.

Senator Jarigbe cited internal “divisions” within the PDP as his reason for leaving the party.

With his defection, all three senatorial seats in Cross River State are now held by the APC. The other two senators are Eteng Williams (Cross River Central) and Asuquo Ekpenyong (Cross River South).

Jarigbe’s move also raises the number of APC senators to 77 out of 109 in the upper legislative chamber.

He has been in the Senate since 2021 after the Supreme Court declared him the rightful senator for Cross River North. Before then, he served as a member of the House of Representatives for Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency during the 8th and 9th National Assemblies.
