Breaking: ASUU Calls Off Strike.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its two-week warning strike with immediate effect due to progress in negotiations with the government. ASUU President, Christopher Piwuna, announced the decision at the union’s national secretariat at the University of Abuja.

Piwuna stated that the suspension follows advancements in discussions addressing ASUU’s demands. He emphasized that the government must resolve outstanding issues, particularly the 2009 agreement, or ASUU may resume the strike. He noted the strike could have been avoided if the government had promptly met the union’s demands.

ASUU’s key demands include:

– Renegotiation of the 2009 ASUU-FGN Agreement

– Sustainable funding for public universities

– University revitalization

– Ending alleged victimization of ASUU members at LASU, KSU (now Prince Abubakar Audu University), and FUTO

– Payment of 25–35% outstanding salary arrears

– Settlement of promotion arrears spanning over four years

– Remittance of outstanding third-party deductions
