Some Nigerian youths under the aegis of Conference of South-South Youth Organizations (COSSYOR) have resolved to protest the ongoing strike embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The body also called on President Muhammadu Buhari, to as a matter of patriotism, direct the recently released Abacha loot from the United States to settle ASUU’s demand for the youth to resume studies.
Recall that the ongoing ASUU strike started on February 14 and was extended for another four weeks terminated on Monday, August 29, 2022.
The strike is in protest against the government’s failure to release revitalisation funds for universities, the failure to release the white paper report of the visitation panel to universities, and the failure to deploy the University Transparency Accountability System for the payment of salaries and allowances of lecturers.
The union has also insisted on not calling off the lingering strike until the arrears are settled.
Following the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Sunday, August 28, 2022, the six-month-old strike was declared to be total and indefinite.
