BREAKING: Chaos at PDP national secretariat as angry members stage protests

Tension broke out on Monday at Wadata Plaza, the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja, after supporters loyal to the faction of the party’s National Vice Chairman (North Central), Mohammed Abdulrahman, staged a protest.

The demonstrators, chanting solidarity songs, demanded that the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum vacate the party headquarters immediately.

Abdulrahman was recently announced as Acting National Chairman following a deepening leadership crisis that led to the one-month suspension of the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and the Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade.

In a new twist, the camp loyal to Anyanwu held a parallel meeting at another location in Abuja, where they declared the suspension of the Damagum-led NWC.

The protesters accused the current leadership of mismanaging the party’s affairs and vowed to take control of the secretariat on behalf of Abdulrahman’s faction.

Security operatives have since been deployed to the area to prevent violence as both groups battle for control of the PDP’s national office.
