BREAKING: Court orders PDP to conduct National convention in Ibadan

A High Court in Oyo State has granted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) permission to proceed with its national convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan.

Justice A. L. Akintola issued the ruling on Monday after hearing an ex parte motion filed by Folahan Malomo Adelabi, effectively vacating an earlier restraining order granted by a Federal High Court in Abuja last week.

The Abuja court had, on October 31, 2025, halted the planned convention following a suit filed by three PDP members — Imo State Chairman, Austin Nwachukwu; Abia State Chairman, Amah Nnanna; and South-South PDP Secretary, Turnah George — who alleged constitutional violations in the preparations for the event.

The plaintiffs had claimed that the PDP failed to adhere to its constitution, internal procedures, and provisions of the Electoral Act, urging the court to stop both the party leadership and INEC from proceeding.

With the new ruling from the Oyo High Court, the PDP now has legal clearance to hold its convention, which will produce new national officers for the opposition party.

The party has faced internal divisions since the 2023 general elections, which saw several members, including senators, defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) amid ongoing leadership disputes.
