#BREAKING: Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori Defects to APC

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing long-term development goals and extensive stakeholder consultations as key reasons for his decision.

The defection was announced following a closed-door meeting held at the Government House in Asaba on Wednesday, April 23, 2024. The governor, who was elected on the PDP platform in the 2023 gubernatorial election, was warmly received by top APC leaders in what political observers are calling a major realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a related development, unconfirmed reports suggest that Oborevwori’s predecessor and former PDP Vice Presidential candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa, may also be on his way out of the party. A video circulating online shows Okowa telling his constituents, “Be assured that we will not go in the wrong direction; we will take the best direction, the best path for our people.”

The twin moves, if confirmed, could reshape the political landscape in Delta State and spark ripple effects nationally as both figures have been central to the PDP’s dominance in the region.
