Former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has reached out to the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, requesting clarification over reports that the NSA’s office imported thallium sulphate, a highly toxic chemical.

In a letter titled “Request for Clarification on the Procurement of Thallium Sulphate”, El-Rufai posed several questions for Ribadu to answer.
The letter begins: “Dear National Security Adviser, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing as a concerned citizen to seek clarity regarding information circulating about the procurement of around 10 kilograms of thallium sulphate by the Office of the National Security Adviser, reportedly sourced from Poland.”

Highlighting the compound’s extreme toxicity, El-Rufai requested confirmation on:
-
The intended purpose and end-use of the imported chemical.
-
The identity of the supplier and whether the import was under a valid chemical or defense permit.
-
The exact quantity and concentration of thallium sulphate involved.
-
Storage and security measures in place for the substance.
-
Oversight and coordination with regulatory bodies such as NAFDAC, NCDC, and other relevant health and environmental agencies.
-
Public-health risk assessments or hazard-mitigation plans implemented to address the dangers of the toxin.

El-Rufai emphasized that the inquiry is meant to ensure safety standards, due process, and transparency are maintained, noting that public trust is strengthened when potential risks are openly addressed.

In recent developments, the former FCT minister admitted to intercepting Ribadu’s phone call in an interview and also alleged that Ribadu orchestrated an arrest attempt against him at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. He claimed the information was obtained after Ribadu’s call was tapped.

El-Rufai, who has frequently criticized the current administration for targeting opposition figures, reiterated his commitment to cooperating with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and expressed his determination to prevent the President’s reelection in 2027.
