BREAKING: Enugu North senator Okechukwu Ezea dies

A senator representing Enugu North, Okechukwu Ezea, has passed away.

His death was confirmed on Wednesday by his colleague, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, in a post on her verified Facebook account.

Natasha described the late Ezea as a good, wise, and gentle man whose prayers supported her through her darkest moments.

She wrote, “Rest in peace Distinguished Senator Okey Ezea. You were a good man, wise and gentle.

Your prayers kept me going through my darkest moments, and I will miss you in chambers.
Enugu North Senatorial District and Kogi Central honor your service and mourn with you.”

The late Okechukwu Ezea was born on 11 August 1963 to the family of the late Chief James Ezea of Itchi, Igbo-Eze South, and Mrs. Theresa Ezea of Nsukka Urban.

He built a distinguished career in politics and public service spanning several decades.

He was one of the co-founders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State in 2013 and later became the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the 2015 elections.

Ezea’s public service journey continued in 2018 when he was appointed Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo.

He served in that capacity until 2022, when he resigned to join the Labour Party. That same year, he secured the party’s senatorial ticket and went on to win the election for Enugu North Senatorial District on 25 February 2023.
