The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, made the announcement on behalf of the government, extending congratulations to Nigerians at home and abroad for this milestone.
In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the minister urged Nigerians to uphold the spirit of patriotism, unity, and resilience that has defined the nation since 1960. He encouraged citizens to support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on national rebirth, economic transformation, and shared prosperity.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo expressed optimism that, with collective effort, Nigeria will continue to advance in peace and development. He wished all Nigerians a joyful and memorable Independence Day celebration.
As part of the festivities, President Tinubu will deliver a national address at 7:00 a.m. on October 1, highlighting his administration’s reform agenda and reflecting on Nigeria’s democratic journey since independence.
At 10:00 a.m., the Independence Anniversary Parade will take place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, attended by top government officials, diplomats, and invited guests.
Under the theme “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation,” the government has outlined a series of events:
September 28: An inter-denominational church service at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.
-September 29: A world press conference at the National Press Centre, Radio House, Abuja.
October 3: The unveiling of the National Values Charter (NVC) and the National Campus Debate grand finale at the State House Conference Centre.
