Mr. Clement Nweke, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, has been suspended by the Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, for alleged insubordination and other offences. Following his suspension, the Governor instructed him to turn over all government property in his possession to the Permanent Secretary by Wednesday’s close of business.

HEADLINENEWS reports, that the suspension was announced in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government and the Coordinating Commissioner, Mr. Ugbala Kenneth.

“The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Nweze Umahi, has approved the indefinite suspension of Hon. Clement A. Nweke as Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, effective immediately,” according to the statement. “Insubordination and dereliction of duty have resulted in an indefinite suspension.”

As a result, Hon Nweke is required to hand over all governmental property in his possession to the Permanent Secretary or the Ministry’s most Senior Officer by the end of business on Wednesday, August 11, 2021.

The statement reads, “Please ensure strict compliance with this directive.” It was also learned that Governor Umahi recently removed Mrs. Adibe Jennifer, the acting Head of Service, from her position. The reason for the removal is still unknown as of the time of filing this report. “Following the directive of the Governor of Ebonyi State, David Nweze Umahi, the mandate to oversee the Office of the Head of Service, Ebonyi State, previously assigned to Mrs. Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, Special Assistant(SA) on Labour Matters/Inter-Party Affairs, is hereby canceled and withdrawn with immediate effect,” the statement reads.
