BREAKING: ISWAP ATTACKS MILITARY CAMP IN BORNO, SETS FACILITY ABLAZE; EYEWITNESSES REPORT HEAVY GUNFIRE

Eyewitnesses said the assault lasted about one and a half hours, with heavy gunfire heard across the town. Satellite data from the Fire Incident and Risk Management System (FIRMS) indicated that the camp was set ablaze during the attack. Security forces reportedly responded, though details of any counter-operations remain unclear.

The incident comes amid heightened insecurity in Nigeria’s North-East. On Friday, suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters abducted five civilians in Doro Baga, a community in Kukawa Local Government Area, Borno State. The victims—Alhaji Sani Boyi, Bullama Dan Umaru, Baba Inusa, Abubakar Jan Boris, and Mallam Shaibu—were reportedly seized at around 7 a.m. while purchasing fish at a busy local market.

Residents described the abductions as part of a pattern of attacks targeting fishermen, farmers, and traders in communities around the Lake Chad region. Panic spread among traders and locals as armed insurgents stormed the market and forcibly removed the victims.

Troops from Operation HADIN KAI under Sector 3, alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local hunters, responded promptly to distress calls from residents. Security sources confirmed that intelligence had been gathered regarding the attackers’ movements and the possible whereabouts of the abducted individuals.

Doro Baga and surrounding areas remain highly vulnerable to insurgent activities despite ongoing military operations, underscoring the persistent threat posed by Boko Haram and ISWAP in the region.
