The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has acknowledged a technical error that affected the integrity of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results in 157 centres nationwide.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, confirmed that 387,000 candidates would be required to retake the exam due to the disruptions.
The announcement comes in response to widespread complaints of technical glitches, abnormally low scores, and various irregularities during the conduct of the UTME.
An emotional Prof. Oloyede, who was visibly distressed and at one point wept while addressing the press, took full responsibility for the failures.
“I sincerely apologise for the trauma this has caused the affected candidates. I take full responsibility for the lapses on the part of our staff,” he said.
According to the registrar, the rescheduled examinations will take place in 65 centres in Lagos and 92 centres across the South-East states, under the Owerri Zone.
The board has pledged to ensure a smoother and more reliable process for the retake.
