In a major breakthrough in the war against violent crime, the Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Wasiu Akinwande, alias Olori Eso—a 44-year-old notorious serial killer, hired assassin, and cult kingpin who has terrorized the Mushin axis of Lagos State for over 15 years.
The suspect, described as the most wanted criminal in Lagos in recent history, was arrested in a covert operation by the Command’s Tactical Squad code-named “Silence, Speed, and Surprise.” He was tracked and apprehended at a hideout in Agbado, Ogun State, following years of intense surveillance and failed attempts across multiple states.
Reign of Fear from 2009–2024
Wasiu Akinwande allegedly masterminded dozens of armed robberies, contract killings, kidnappings, and cult-related murders, leaving a trail of trauma, grief, and devastation in his wake. His criminal network, spread across Lagos and beyond, had evaded justice for over a decade.
According to police sources, four grieving families have already come forward to identify him as the man responsible for the murder of their children and wards in Mushin and surrounding areas.
“This arrest is a turning point in our effort to rid Lagos of hardened criminals. We have closed a terrifying chapter,” said CP Olohundare Jimoh, Commissioner of Police, Lagos State.
Weapons Cache Recovered
In a raid on his Mushin residence, the police recovered a significant cache of deadly weapons, including:
2 AK-47 rifles
1 K2 Assault rifle
3 Pump action shotguns
2 locally made pistols
57 live cartridges
70 rounds of 5.56 ammunition
27 rounds of 9mm ammo
3 Walkie-talkies, 1 dagger, and 9 international passports belonging to different individuals
Police say Akinwande confessed to using these items in his killings and operations.
Next Steps: Network Crackdown Begins
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID, has been directed to broaden the investigation, identify all associates, and bring them to justice. Special detectives are now combing through evidence, crime scenes, and testimonies linked to Akinwande’s criminal enterprise.
He is currently held under tight security and will soon be charged to court.
Police Reassure Public, Appeal for Vigilance
Commissioner Jimoh commended the bravery of the Tactical Squad and emphasized that safety and security remain top priorities for the command. The public has been urged to:
Remain vigilant
Report suspicious activity
Cooperate with investigators
“This is not the end—only the beginning of justice,” noted CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Police PRO, Lagos Command.
Conclusion
With the arrest of Wasiu “Olori Eso” Akinwande, Lagos Police have dismantled one of the most feared violent crime networks in recent memory. The state now turns the page toward justice, hoping that decades of terror may finally give way to healing.
