Reports from Sahara Reporters indicate that more than ten passengers lost their lives in the incident, while a number of survivors suffered injuries and were taken to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment.

Those on board were said to be heading to Ofoni in Sagbama Local Government Area to honor the late deputy governor, who died suddenly on December 11, 2025, at the age of 60 after collapsing in his office at the Government House in Yenagoa.

His funeral holds on January 30, 2026, following several remembrance activities, including a tribute event attended by notable personalities such as former President Goodluck Jonathan, Governor Douye Diri, and former Governor Seriake Dickson.

Ewhrudjakpo previously served as the senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District between 2019 and 2020 during the 9th National Assembly.
