A tragic incident unfolded on Monday in the Agbowa area along the Ikorodu expressway in Lagos State, after a mentally unstable man overpowered a soldier at a military checkpoint and fatally shot him.
According to security sources, the attacker managed to seize the soldier’s AK-47 rifle before opening fire, killing him instantly. The incident occurred near the Adeogun Bridge in Agbowa.

A police source who confirmed the development said, “An insane man snatched a military man’s rifle and shot him dead at the checkpoint.” Efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, were unsuccessful as calls were not answered or returned.

This latest killing comes shortly after SaharaReporters reported the death of Brigadier General M. Uba, a senior Nigerian Army commander, who was ambushed and murdered by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters along the Damboa–Biu road in Borno State.

General Uba had taken part in a joint air and ground operation against insurgents earlier that day and had contacted his superiors to confirm his safety. However, his communications may have exposed his location, enabling the terrorists to intercept him. He was reportedly captured alive, interrogated briefly, and then executed.
