BREAKING: NUPENG Suspends Strike After Agreement With Dangote

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has suspended its nationwide strike following a breakthrough agreement with the Dangote Group on Tuesday in Abuja.

The strike, which began Monday, was launched over alleged anti-union practices and the refusal of Dangote to allow its workers to join NUPENG. Union President Williams Akporeha had described the action as a stand against “anti-worker and anti-union practices,” accusing the company of attempting to “enslave” employees.

The Dangote Group, for its part, had downplayed fears of fuel scarcity, insisting the strike would not disrupt supply.

A resolution was reached after intense negotiations involving government officials and key labor stakeholders, according to sources at the meeting.

Following the agreement, NUPENG has directed its members to resume work immediately, ending a standoff that had threatened to escalate into a major economic crisis. The action had received backing from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).
