BREAKING: PDP zones 2027 presidential ticket to the south

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South.

The resolution was reached on Monday, August 25, 2025, during the party’s NEC meeting held in Abuja.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, explained that the decision was based on the recommendations of the Zoning Committee led by Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri.

According to him, the NEC expressed satisfaction with the level of preparations for the party’s forthcoming national convention scheduled for November.

Ologunagba further clarified the zoning formula:

“NEC recommended that the North and South should retain their current National Working Committee (NWC) positions. Since the office of the National Chairman is zoned to the North, the PDP 2027 presidential ticket is hereby zoned to the South.”

This decision sets the stage for an intense contest among southern aspirants within the party as the build-up to the 2027 elections gathers momentum.
