BREAKING: POLICE ARREST ANTHONY JOSHUA’S DRIVER HOURS AFTER RELEASE FROM HOSPITAL

The driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the crash that claimed the lives of two associates of former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been arrested.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the arrest on Thursday. Joshua had been discharged late Wednesday night from Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, Lagos, after being certified clinically fit to continue his recovery at home.

The accident occurred on Monday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway when the Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and members of his team rammed into a stationary truck. Joshua’s close associates, Kevin Latif Ayodele, his personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach, died in the crash.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) disclosed that five adult males were involved in the accident, with two fatalities, one injured, and two others escaping unhurt. Preliminary findings attributed the crash to excessive speed and wrongful overtaking, which the FRSC described as common causes of fatal accidents on Nigerian highways.

Babaseyi confirmed in a post on his verified X handle that, “The driver of the Lexus SUV is currently in custody in connection with the Anthony Joshua accident case. Investigations are ongoing.”

The incident has sparked criticism over emergency response in the country, as some reports suggested FRSC officials arrived at the scene on foot.

Authorities continue investigations into the circumstances of the crash and the responsibility of the driver.
