There is palpable tension at the headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja over attempts to hold parallel meetings.
The National Working Committee (NWC) elected in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, and the faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, had both scheduled meetings for today.
According to Daily Trust, Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary of the pro-Wike faction, arrived at Wadata Plaza with some members of the group.

Shortly after Anyanwu’s arrival, a faction loyal to the newly elected chairman, Taminu Turaki, also arrived at the headquarters but was prevented from entering.
There was commotion after two governors forced their way in. As other members of the faction attempted to follow, security operatives fired gunshots and released teargas to disperse them.
The gunshots and teargas caused many people to run for safety.
Speaking to journalists in his office before the other faction arrived, Anyanwu said the heightened security measures were to prevent any breakdown of law and order at the main opposition headquarters.

He added that his faction was prepared for the Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings.
