The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Barinada Mpigi, has passed away at the age of 64.
His death was confirmed on Thursday, although details surrounding the circumstances remain unknown as of the time of this report.

Mpigi was born on June 23, 1961, and until his death, he represented the Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate.
He began his political career in the National Assembly in 2011 after being elected to the House of Representatives. He secured a second term in 2016 before moving to the Senate in 2019, where he won the Rivers South-East seat under the Peoples Democratic Party.

During the Ninth Assembly, Mpigi chaired a joint Senate committee established to investigate crude oil theft in the Niger Delta, playing a key role in legislative efforts to address oil-related economic sabotage.

As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, he was also deeply involved in the oversight of federal infrastructure projects across the country.

His passing marks a significant loss to the National Assembly and the Rivers State political landscape.
