The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, has distanced his administration from circulating claims that the government is set to recruit 10,000 individuals into the state civil service.
On Thursday, a false announcement began circulating widely on Facebook, alleging that the recruitment drive had received official approval. The notice, purportedly signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibibia Lucky Worika, claimed that a recruitment portal would open on Sunday, April 13, 2025.
In response, the Acting Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, issued a formal statement debunking the report, describing it as entirely false and misleading.
“The Office of the Administrator of Rivers State wishes to disclaim a purported ‘Special Government Announcement’ circulating on social media platforms, which falsely states that His Excellency, the Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas CFR, has approved the recruitment of 10,000 graduates and non-graduates into the Rivers State Civil Service,” the statement read.
“It further falsely claims that a recruitment portal will be opened at midnight on Sunday, April 13, 2025.”
The government has urged the public to disregard the information, emphasizing that no such approval has been granted and that the supposed announcement is fake.
“Any official communication regarding civil service recruitment will be released by the Rivers State Civil Service Commission through the appropriate channels at the appropriate time,” the statement concluded.
