Renewed violence has broken out in Taraba State following fresh attacks by suspected terrorists on Tiv communities in Takum Local Government Area, with residents reporting continued killings and the recovery of several bodies.

A resident who spoke with SaharaReporters on Tuesday evening said the attacks were still ongoing at the time of reporting, describing the situation as dire.
“Killings are still happening right now in Tiv communities in Takum LGA. Many people have been killed, and about six bodies have already been recovered,” the resident said.
Another source accused the Taraba State Government of failing to respond adequately to the crisis, alleging that the attacks were deliberate and targeted.

“People are being wiped out in Takum Local Government. The governor does not seem to care. This is a targeted extermination. Only the media can bring attention to what is happening,” the source claimed.
Images obtained by SaharaReporters reportedly highlight the scale of the violence affecting the affected communities.
The latest attacks come amid persistent assaults on Tiv Christian settlements in the Chanchanji district of Takum LGA. Residents have repeatedly accused the state government and security agencies of neglect, alleging they have been left vulnerable to armed attackers.
As previously reported, more than 100 people were killed within a one-month period during coordinated attacks on Tiv communities, forcing survivors to flee their homes as properties, farmlands, and places of worship were destroyed or taken over.

A community leader and official of the Northern Christians Religious Leaders Assembly (NOCRELA), Rev. Dr. Amb. Micah Philip Dopah, earlier expressed frustration over what he described as government inaction despite multiple appeals for intervention.
“This problem has existed for a long time. People are killed daily without protection. We have written several letters to the government, but there has been no response,” he said.
Another elder noted that although the violence began nearly two years ago, it has intensified significantly in recent weeks, leading to widespread displacement and loss of livelihoods.

NOCRELA has described the attacks as organised and targeted, revealing that at least 102 people were killed within 33 days in several assaults on Tiv settlements in Chanchanji district. The group accused suspected Fulani militia of carrying out the attacks and criticised security agencies for failing to act despite repeated warnings and distress calls.
