President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a 30-day national conference for youths to discuss and address the challenges they face.
Tinubu made this announcement on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, during Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day Anniversary broadcast.
“As we tackle today’s challenges, we are mindful of the future and the role of the next generation in shaping it,” Tinubu said during his second Independence Day address since assuming office on May 29, 2023. “We are leading with the future in mind, knowing that we cannot design it without making the youth its architects.”
In line with this vision, Tinubu revealed the launch of the National Youth Conference, a platform to address the challenges and opportunities confronting Nigeria’s young population, which makes up over 60% of the country’s citizens.
“This conference will foster meaningful dialogue and empower young people to participate actively in nation-building by ensuring their voices are heard in shaping the policies that affect their lives,” Tinubu said. “The 30-day Confab will unite young Nigerians to collaborate on solutions for key issues such as education, employment, innovation, security, and social justice.”
He added that the modalities for the conference and the selection of delegates will be determined in close consultation with youth representatives. Tinubu emphasized that the government will carefully review and implement the recommendations from the forum, reiterating his administration’s commitment to building a more inclusive, prosperous, and united Nigeria.
