Kano State Assembly in Shock as Two Lawmakers Die Hours Apart
The Kano State House of Assembly has been thrown into grief following the sudden deaths of two of its members, Aminu Ungoggo and Sarki Daneji, who reportedly passed away within hours of each other on Wednesday.
Ungoggo, who chaired the House Committee on Appropriation, was the first to die. Reports indicate he passed away at the Assembly complex after a brief illness.

The Assembly confirmed the news through a statement by the Speaker’s spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai. “The late Hon. Ungoggo died while in active duty at the Kano State House of Assembly. He is survived by his wife and children,” the statement read.
Speaker Jibril Falgore expressed condolences to Ungoggo’s family, constituents, and colleagues, describing the loss as irreplaceable. “Hon. Ungoggo’s death comes at a critical time when Kano citizens needed him most,” he said.

Both lawmakers were actively serving their constituencies in the Assembly at the time of their deaths. Funeral arrangements and further statements from the Assembly leadership were yet to be released at the time of reporting.
The sudden loss has left many reflecting on how best to honour the lawmakers’ service and support their families.
