BULLET DISCOVERY HALTS EDO ASSEMBLY’S FIRST PLENARY

The first sitting of the Edo State House of Assembly for 2026 was abruptly suspended on Tuesday after a bullet and suspected gunshot holes were discovered within the Assembly complex.

Tension ensued as lawmakers arrived for plenary and were alerted to what appeared to be evidence of a shooting incident in the chamber area.

The leadership of the House immediately suspended proceedings and invited operatives from the Edo State Police Command and the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate the incident.

Majority Leader Jonathan Ebamewu told journalists that security agencies had taken over the matter and that plenary would resume only after a thorough investigation.

“We were ready for sitting today when our attention was drawn to the fact that there was an incident within the complex. I immediately contacted the Commissioner of Police and the DSS. We have handed everything over to them to investigate and provide a comprehensive report on what transpired,” Ebamewu said.

He added:

“For now, everything is calm, and we remain eager to commence legislative business. However, in view of the incident, we have decided to allow security agencies to thoroughly comb the complex and conclude their investigation before we reconvene. Be rest assured that we are not distracted. We will certainly resume our duties once the situation is fully addressed.”

As of the time of reporting, armed police officers were conducting a sweep of the Assembly complex as part of ongoing investigations.
