CAC DELISTS OVER 400,000 INACTIVE COMPANIES IN 2025

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has announced the removal of more than 400,000 inactive and non-compliant companies from its official register in 2025.

Registrar-General Hussaini Magaji made the disclosure at a CAC event in Abuja, explaining that the de-registration exercise was aimed at cleansing the national companies database and safeguarding its integrity.

Magaji highlighted the commission’s transition from a manual, location-based registry to a fully digital, end-to-end platform, enabling Nigerians to register companies both locally and internationally without visiting CAC offices.

“Today, CAC services are available 24/7, allowing entrepreneurs to register their businesses remotely. These reforms have enhanced transparency, strengthened confidence in Nigeria’s business environment, and made corporate regulation more efficient,” he said.

The Registrar-General also noted that, in partnership with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), CAC facilitated free business registrations for 250,000 entrepreneurs, helping to reduce the cost of formalisation and encourage small businesses to operate within the regulated economy.

Additionally, CAC has launched a ‘beneficial ownership register’ to promote transparency and accountability, allowing the public to identify the ultimate owners of companies operating in Nigeria.
