Chief Of Defence Advised Wike To Wait For Investigation,He Didn’t Wait,He Went To The Site—Matawalle

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has commented on the confrontation involving FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and military personnel who prevented him from accessing a disputed land in Abuja.

Matawalle revealed that Wike had contacted the Chief of Defence Staff regarding the land issue. The Defence Chief advised him to wait for a formal investigation before taking any action. Despite this guidance, Wike reportedly went directly to the site to confront the officers present.

He added that even after assurances from the Chief of Naval Staff that an inquiry would be conducted, Wike proceeded to the location. Matawalle emphasized that as a leader, Wike should have exercised patience and allowed the investigation to conclude before visiting the site.

“I gathered that he called the Chief of Defence Staff, who advised him to wait for an investigation. However, he did not wait and instead went straight to the site,” Matawalle stated.

The incident highlights tensions surrounding disputed land access and underscores the importance of following official procedures before taking direct action.
