The Osun State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Sunday Bisi, has clarified that Governor Ademola Adeleke is not affiliated with the recently announced coalition spearheaded by former presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
The Atiku-led coalition, which includes the African Democratic Congress (ADC), aims to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election. However, Mr. Bisi emphasized that the Osun State chapter of the PDP remains united and separate from any such alliance.
“We remain with PDP. Governor Ademola Adeleke also remains in the PDP. We are in PDP, we are not going anywhere. I can assure you, we are not going anywhere,” Bisi stated firmly.
Regarding the formation of the coalition, Bisi acknowledged Atiku and his associates’ right to form alliances, drawing a parallel to the APC’s coalition in 2015. He asserted that there is nothing inherently wrong with political groups coming together in a democracy. “We are in a democracy. Before APC came to power in 2015, they also formed a coalition. There’s nothing wrong with those people coming together to form a coalition against it,” he explained.
However, Bisi criticized Atiku Abubakar’s recent characterization of the PDP as a “weak party” incapable of winning elections. He dismissed Atiku’s comment, citing the former Vice President’s history of moving between different political parties.
“I do not agree with Atiku Abubakar that the PDP is weak and cannot win an election. This will not be the first time Atiku has left PDP, and PDP won the election in his absence,” Bisi concluded, underscoring the party’s resilience.
