A twin-propeller aircraft carrying 15 people, including Colombian lawmaker Diogenes Quintero, has crashed in a mountainous area near the Venezuelan border.

The aircraft, which departed from the border city of Cúcuta, lost contact with air traffic control shortly before its scheduled landing in Ocaña at around 5:00 p.m. GMT on January 28, according to AFP.

An official from the aviation authority confirmed to AFP: “There are no survivors.”

The plane was carrying 13 passengers and 2 crew members. In response to the accident, the Colombian government deployed the Air Force to locate the wreckage and recover the bodies.

Local lawmaker Wilmer Carrillo expressed his sorrow over the tragedy, saying: “We have received with concern the news of the air accident involving my colleague, Diogenes Quintero, Carlos Salcedo, and their teams.”

Quintero serves in Colombia’s Chamber of Deputies, while Salcedo is a candidate in the upcoming elections.

The crash highlights a disturbing pattern of aviation accidents involving prominent figures in Colombia. In January 2025, a private plane went down in central-eastern Colombia, killing all six passengers on board, including popular singer Yeison Jiménez.

The tragedy follows a similar incident reported yesterday in India, where a private jet carrying Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others crashed, claiming all lives onboard. That aircraft had departed from Mumbai en route to Baramati, Pawar’s political stronghold.

The cause of the Colombian crash remains under investigation. Authorities are working to retrieve the victims and determine what led to the fatal accident.

Plane Crash in Colombia Kills All 15 on Board, Authorities Launch Investigation.

A tragic plane crash in northeastern Colombia has claimed the lives of all 15 people on board a domestic flight, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.
The aircraft, operated by state-run airline Satena, lost contact shortly after departing from Cúcuta and later crashed in a remote rural area near Playa de Belén in Norte de Santander province.

Among the victims was Congressman Diógenes Quintero, a prominent advocate for victims of Colombia’s internal conflict.
Emergency teams recovered the bodies amid difficult terrain and poor weather conditions.
Colombia’s Civil Aeronautics Authority has launched a formal investigation into the cause of the crash, with officials expressing national mourning over the tragedy.
