The Ogun Magistrate Court 1 in Sagamu, presided over by Olufumilayo Somefun, has adjourned the trial of Adeniyi Mobolaji, the driver involved in the road accident that claimed the lives of former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua’s personal trainer and strength coach, to March 17, 2026.

This marks the second adjournment, granted to allow the Director of Public Prosecutions, who recently assumed responsibility for the case, adequate time to prepare for the hearing.
Mobolaji faces charges including dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care resulting in bodily harm and property damage, and driving without a valid national driver’s licence.

The December 29, 2025, accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway involved a collision between Joshua’s Lexus SUV and a stationary truck, resulting in the deaths of his personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami. Joshua and the driver sustained minor injuries.

Following the accident, Joshua visited a Lagos funeral home with his mother to pay respects before the remains were repatriated to the United Kingdom. A funeral prayer service was held at the London Central Mosque on January 4, 2026.

The deaths of Ayodele and Ghami, both key members of Joshua’s training team, sent shockwaves through the international boxing community.
