COURT BARS TURAKI-LED NWC FROM PDP NATIONAL SECRETARIAT

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has barred the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) from accessing the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja.

The order followed a suit filed by members loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, challenging the legality of the Turaki-led faction’s November 2025 national convention in Ibadan and the election of party officials. The court declared the convention unconstitutional, null, and void, noting that it violated both the Nigerian Constitution and the PDP’s constitution.

Justice Abdulmalik also directed security agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and the Department of State Services (DSS), to ensure adequate protection for the Abdulrahman-led PDP when accessing the secretariat. She emphasised that the expulsion of Wike and his allies during the 2025 convention was unlawful and an affront to the court’s prior orders.

The judge rejected requests by the Turaki faction for her recusal, stating there was no evidence of bias and that allegations must be supported by credible proof. She also dismissed claims that the court lacked jurisdiction or that the plaintiffs had no standing, noting the case involved interpretation and enforcement of constitutional provisions.

Following the judgment, the Wike-led PDP held its national convention on Sunday, where Mohammed Abdulrahman emerged as the substantive national chairman. Justice Abdulmalik’s ruling reinforces the authority of existing court judgments and confirms that all decisions and elections from the Turaki-led convention are invalid.
