A Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected the latest bail application from Tukur Mohammed Mamu, an alleged terrorist negotiator detained by the Department of State Services (DSS).
In a ruling on Wednesday, Justice Mohammed Umar acknowledged Mamu’s health issues but ordered the DSS to provide access to appropriate medical care at a suitable facility rather than granting bail. The judge noted the prosecution’s diligence, stating, “The prosecution has shown commendable diligence, so there is no basis for bail on grounds of lack of progress.”
The court also instructed the DSS to allow Mamu access to his family and directed his defense counsel to choose an acceptable medical facility for his treatment.
This marks the third bail denial for Mamu since his arraignment on March 21, 2023, on a 10-count charge related to terrorism financing and other offenses.
Mamu, publisher of *Desert Herald*, was arrested on September 7, 2022, by Egyptian authorities at Cairo International Airport and repatriated to Nigeria on suspicions of terrorism financing. The Federal Government alleges Mamu facilitated negotiations between families of hostages from the March 2022 Abuja-Kaduna train attack and Boko Haram members for personal financial gain. He is also accused of collecting and delivering ransom payments to terrorists.
