The Lagos State Safety Commission has sealed off the Monterosa Construction site following a tragic crane accident that resulted in the death of a site worker.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Commission revealed that preliminary investigations by its officials, who promptly arrived at the scene, confirmed that the crane operator, Mr. Rotimi Adesina, sustained fatal injuries during the incident. He was immediately taken to Evercare Hospital in Lekki Phase 1, where he was later pronounced dead.

At the time of the incident, the site’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Officer was reportedly attending to the injured operator and was therefore unavailable for immediate questioning.

According to Safety Commission officials, the Project Manager, Mr. Hein Coerzer, and the Company Secretary, Mr. Ndidi Uchechukwu, were questioned regarding the incident and asked to provide documentation concerning the crane involved. It was disclosed that all relevant documents are currently stored at the company’s head office.

The company has been directed to submit all necessary documents related to the crane and overall site operations for a thorough review by the Commission.

The Director-General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, ordered the sealing of the construction site and issued an abatement notice to eliminate any immediate hazards and safeguard the lives of workers on-site. He emphasized that safety must never be compromised under any circumstances.

Mojola extended his condolences to the family of the deceased and reaffirmed the government’s dedication to enforcing safety regulations to prevent future tragedies. He noted that additional updates will be shared as the investigation continues.
