CUPP: Defections to APC Won’t Secure 2027 Victory

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has stated that the recent defections of Enugu and Bayelsa state governors to the All Progressives Congress (APC) do not guarantee the ruling party’s success in the 2027 elections. Speaking in Abuja on October 16, 2025, CUPP General Secretary Peter Ameh criticized opposition politicians joining the APC, calling them out of touch with Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

Ameh highlighted that the 2023 elections demonstrated voters’ power to reject manipulation, citing an Okada rider’s victory over established politicians in Southern Kaduna as evidence of a “democratic awakening.”

He argued that joining the APC is not a path to political survival for leaders disconnected from the people. With growing public discontent, Ameh predicted that the 2027 polls will be a fiercely contested battleground, where citizens’ conscience, not party affiliations, will shape Nigeria’s political future.
