The Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Area Command, has intercepted five trucks loaded with 10,000 bags of expired flour imported from Egypt, worth over ₦1.21 billion. The seizure was made during a joint operation with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
According to the Command, the operation is part of its ongoing efforts to curb smuggling, safeguard public health, and protect the nation’s economy. The expired flour, officials said, posed serious health hazards such as food poisoning and infections, while also threatening local industries and consumer confidence.
Speaking during his maiden press briefing on October 9, 2025, the Customs Area Controller, Wale Adenuga, reviewed the Command’s activities between September 1 and October 9, 2025. He disclosed that aside from the expired flour, officers also confiscated 1,104 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, 120 packs of Tramadol 120mg (with suspects handed over to the NDLEA), 2,043 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 150 bales of second-hand clothes, 169 bottles of DSP cough syrup with codeine, and five used vehicles.
