Customs Seize N5.3bn Worth of Illicit Drugs at Tin Can Port

The Nigeria Customs Service, Tin Can Island Command, intercepted two containers concealing illicit drugs valued at over N5.3 billion. Customs Area Controller Comptroller Frank Onyeka confirmed the seizures, highlighting the command’s intelligence-driven enforcement efforts.

On September 4, container HLXU8500072 from Montreal, Canada, was intercepted, revealing 78 kilograms of Colorado Indica and 1.2 kilograms of Hashish Oil hidden in four vehicles. On October 24, container FANU312876/9 was seized, containing 1,093 kilograms of Cannabis Indica and 8 kilograms of Crystal Methamphetamine, also concealed in four vehicles.

The narcotics, valued at N5.304 billion, were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for investigation and prosecution. Onyeka praised the NDLEA, Navy, Police, and other agencies for their collaboration and urged importers to comply with regulations. NDLEA’s Daniel Onyishi commended Customs’ vigilance, assuring a thorough investigation and legal disposal of the seized drugs.
