CUSTOMS: TIN CAN ISLAND COMMAND SURPASSES 2025 REVENUE TARGET BY ₦51.8 BILLION

The Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has surpassed its 2025 revenue target, generating ₦1,576,507,651,601.84, exceeding the projected ₦1,524,669,999,478.52 by ₦51,837,652,129.32.

Speaking to journalists in Lagos on Tuesday, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, Customs Area Controller at the port, attributed the impressive performance to targeted strategies and efficient operations amid growing trade volumes.

According to Onyeka, bulk cargo, general merchandise, and used vehicle imports were the top contributors to revenue growth. Diligent inspections and strict adherence to customs procedures ensured full collection on high-volume consignments.

He highlighted operational reforms that helped curb revenue leakages, noting that reducing unnecessary alerts, streamlining clearance processes, and improving internal coordination significantly boosted efficiency. “These measures minimized delays and abuse, directly enhancing revenue collections without compromising oversight,” Onyeka said.

The Controller also emphasized the role of stakeholder engagement in driving results. “Regular consultations with importers, licensed agents, terminal operators, and shipping companies promoted compliance and created a conducive trade environment, leading to higher legitimate traffic through the port,” he added.

Enforcement efforts further safeguarded federal revenue. Intelligence-driven operations led to the seizure of prohibited and misdeclared goods, preventing illegal imports and protecting the nation’s economic interests.

Onyeka credited Comptroller-General Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi for his strategic leadership, highlighting professionalism, automation, and collaboration with stakeholders as key factors in the command’s success.

He also praised officers and partners for their dedication and cooperation and vowed that the Tin Can Island Port Command would maintain vigilance to sustain momentum, ensuring continued revenue growth and transparency in support of national fiscal objectives.
