Dangote Cement Begins Operations in Ivory Coast

Dangote Cement has officially commenced operations at its new plant in Attingué, located about 30 kilometres from Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

In a statement released on Sunday, the company announced that the development was made public by Serge Gbotta, Managing Director of Dangote Cement Ivory Coast, during an event held at Novotel Abidjan-Marcory.

The new plant, built on a 50-hectare site, boasts an annual production capacity of 3 million tonnes of cement, making it one of Dangote Group’s largest facilities outside Nigeria.

“With an investment estimated at 100 billion CFA francs, this strategic project reflects Aliko Dangote’s vision of creating a self-sufficient Africa capable of transforming its natural resources into high-quality finished products,” the company said.

With the opening of the Attingué plant, Ivory Coast becomes the 11th African country to host a Dangote Cement production unit. Across the continent, the group now has a total installed capacity of 55 million tonnes per year, aiming to support local infrastructure development and meet the rising demand for building materials driven by urbanisation and major construction projects.

The project is expected to create over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, providing economic opportunities for young people and boosting local small and medium enterprises involved in transportation, construction, retail, and supply chains.

Speaking at the launch, the CEO of Dangote Cement Ivory Coast said:

“Our ambition is clear — to provide Ivorians with world-class cement produced locally at competitive prices. The Attingué plant is not just an industrial unit; it is a symbol of confidence in the future of Ivory Coast and a commitment to sustainable development in partnership with local communities.”
